Dr. Mpumelelo Sati, Ph.D

Privacy notice

Farmers, partners and clients trust me with their details when they write to me. This notice explains, in plain language, what I collect through this website, why, who else handles it, and how you stay in control of it under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Last updated 5 October 2026

Who I am

This website belongs to Dr. Mpumelelo Sati, Ph.D, an agroecology and livestock value chain consultant based in South Africa. For the purposes of POPIA I am the responsible party for the personal information collected here, and I am also the Information Officer.

You can reach me about anything in this notice at molo@mpumelelosati.co.za.

What I collect

I only collect what you choose to send me through the forms on this site, plus a small amount of technical information that every website receives.

Information collected automatically

When you visit, your browser sends your IP address, device and browser type, and the pages you view. I use this only in summary form, to understand how many people visit and which pages help them.

I do not ask for special personal information such as health, religion or ID numbers. Please don't include it in your messages.

Why I use it

  • To answer you. Replying to your question, enquiry or Engage request by the channel you chose.
  • To keep a promise. If you join the Livestock MBA waitlist, I will email you when applications open. If you ask about the mentorship subscription, I will tell you about it.
  • To deliver work you agree to. If we go on to work together, I use your details to plan, deliver and invoice that work.
  • To run the website. Keeping the site secure, stopping spam and understanding how it is used.

I rely on your consent, which you give by ticking the box on each form, and on my legitimate interest in running a secure website and replying to the people who contact me. I do not sell your information, and I do not add you to any mailing list you have not asked to join.

Who else handles it

A few trusted service providers (operators, in POPIA terms) process information on my behalf. They may only use it to provide their service to me.

ProviderWhat they doWhere
Website hostStores the website and the copies of form messages kept in WordPressGermany (EU)
Zoho MailMy email inbox, where form messages arriveUnited States
BrevoDelivers the emails the website sendsFrance (EU)
WhatsApp (Meta)Carries WhatsApp messages between usInternational
WordPress.com JetpackVisitor statistics and securityUnited States
GoogleSupplies the website's fonts, and YouTube videos when you press playInternational

I will also share information if the law requires it, for example in response to a lawful request from a court or regulator.

Information sent abroad

Because some of these providers are based outside South Africa, your information may be stored or processed in the European Union or the United States. I only use providers that are bound by data protection laws or agreements that give protection substantially similar to POPIA, as section 72 of the Act requires. By using the forms you consent to this transfer.

How long I keep it

  • Questions and enquiries: up to two years after our last contact, so I can follow up and see earlier conversations if you write again.
  • Livestock MBA waitlist: until the programme opens and you have heard from me, or until you ask to be removed.
  • Clients: for as long as tax and accounting law requires, usually five years after the work ends.

After that I delete the information, or keep it only in a form that no longer identifies you.

Keeping it safe

The website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Form messages are stored in a private area of WordPress that only I can open, and my email and hosting accounts are protected with strong passwords. If I ever become aware of a breach that affects your information, I will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may, at any time and free of charge:

  • ask what information I hold about you and receive a copy;
  • ask me to correct it, or to delete it;
  • object to how I use it, or withdraw your consent, for example to leave the waitlist;
  • lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

To use any of these rights, email molo@mpumelelosati.co.za. I may ask you to confirm who you are before I act, and I will reply within 30 days.

If you are not happy with how I handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator at POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za or through inforegulator.org.za. I would be grateful for the chance to put it right first.

Cookies and embedded content

The site uses a small number of cookies that WordPress and Jetpack need to work, keep the site secure and count visits. It does not use advertising cookies.

Videos on the Community page come from YouTube. They load from YouTube's privacy-enhanced service only when you press play, and at that point YouTube's own privacy policy applies. Links to Substack, LinkedIn and YouTube take you to those sites, which have their own policies.

Children

This website is meant for adults. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent me their details, please let me know and I will delete them.

Changes to this notice

I will update this notice when the website or the services behind it change, and show the new date at the top of the page.
